Crane set up on a Brisbane residential street for a large tree removal

Tight Access Tree Removal Brisbane

Queenslanders on narrow blocks, courtyards behind the house, trees boxed in by a pool and two fences — these are the jobs other crews quote high or walk away from. They are routine for us.

A tracked spider lift fits through a standard side gate, which is usually the difference between working from the ground and not being able to reach the tree at all.

Getting to a tree you cannot drive to

Tight access is a rigging and logistics problem rather than a cutting one. The tree still has to come down in controlled pieces, but every piece then has to travel out through whatever gap exists — a side gate, a carport, occasionally over the roof on a crane parked in the street. We work out that route before the day, because discovering it on the morning is what turns a one-day job into three.

Access problems we deal with:

How we get in

What makes a tight block workable

Almost everything is reachable with the right approach. These are the four we use most.

  • Tracked spider lift

Narrow enough for a standard side gate, tracks rather than wheels so it crosses soft ground and paving without tearing either up.

  • Climbing and rigging

Where nothing can get in at all, the tree is climbed and every piece lowered on ropes to a spot small enough to work from.

  • Crane from the street

If the back yard is genuinely sealed off, the crane sits out the front and lifts each section over the house.

  • Carrying and chipping in stages

Slower, but on some blocks it is simply the answer — sections cut small enough to hand out and fed into the chipper at the kerb.

Why tight access is worth a specialist

On an open block, an ordinary crew and a bit of care will get a tree down. On a tight one, the margin disappears — there is a fence a metre away, a pool on the other side, and nowhere to put a limb once it is off. That is where equipment and experience stop being a nice-to-have. We are fully insured, and on this kind of job that matters more than anywhere else, because the things that can be damaged are all within a few metres of the trunk.

Questions

Tight Access Tree Removal — Frequently Asked Questions

  • Usually. A tracked spider lift is built to fit a standard residential gate. Measure the narrowest point and tell us the number when you enquire — that one measurement decides most of the plan.

  • Tracks spread the load far better than wheels, and we use boards where the ground is soft. Some marking on soft turf is possible after a wet week, and we will say so upfront rather than after.

  • Then it comes out over the roof on a crane, or it is climbed and carried. Neither is exotic. It changes the price, not whether it can be done.

  • Generally yes, because it takes longer and often needs a lift or a crane. How much more depends entirely on the block, which is why we quote it on site.
