What tree trimming actually involves
Trimming is selective. We take the specific limbs that are causing the problem — the ones over the gutters, the ones scraping the eaves, the ones blocking the light — and cut them at points where the tree can seal the wound and carry on. What stays behind is a tree that still looks like a tree, in a size that suits the block.

Anyone with a chainsaw can make a tree smaller. Doing it so the tree stays healthy and safe is a different job. Cuts placed wrong leave wounds the tree cannot close, and the regrowth that follows is fast, weak and attached to damaged wood — which is how a tree that was a nuisance becomes a tree that is a hazard. Our arborists are AQF5 Diploma and Certificate 3 certified, we work to the Australian Standard, and we are fully insured for public liability and WorkCover.

In practice, yes — both mean removing selected branches to improve a tree’s shape, health or clearance. Trimming tends to be what people say when they want a tree kept in bounds, and pruning what they say when they are thinking about the tree’s health. We do the same job either way.
It comes down to the size of the tree, how easy it is to get equipment to it, and how much of the canopy needs work. A couple of limbs over a carport is a very different job to a mature gum that has not been touched in ten years. Quotes are free and in most cases we can give you the number on the spot.
Not the way it is usually meant. Cutting a tree back to a set height — topping — goes against the Australian Standard and tends to leave the tree in worse shape than it started. What we can do is reduce and thin the canopy so the tree clears the roof and stops dropping into the gutters. It gets you the same outcome without wrecking the tree.
Less than most people expect, and for good reason — a tree that loses too much canopy at once is under real stress and responds with weak regrowth. We will tell you at the quote how much can safely come off, and if that is not enough to solve your problem, we will say so and talk you through the alternatives.
